On June 29 2009 Laurie Chan, Leana Garraway, and Lise Luppens traveled to Skidegate First Nation on the island of Haidi Gwaii. There they met with councilors Tanu Lusignan and Remi Levesque and were given a cultural tour of the area. This included visiting the Haida Heritage Centre at Kaay LLnaggaay, the Haida carving shed, Bill Reid Dogfish Totem pole, and Spirit Lake hiking trail. After discussing the details of the project with Tanu and Remi in the afternoon, the team hosted a community meeting that evening. The meeting was attended by 33 members of the community including members of the band council and health clinic. There was a great deal of discussion about the project, and many questions, and feedback. Those attending were in support of participating in the project.
